Business surveys signal 'impressive' start to 2019

Companies in the service sector reported that growth in new orders picked up pace in February, but Brexit worries affected sentiment

The latest measures of business activity in February have indicated that the Irish economy began 2019 strongly.

A closely-watched survey showed that growth in activity in the service sector of the economy accelerated last month. AIB’s Services PMI, compiled by IHS Markit, rose to 55.9 from 54.2 in January. Any figure above 50 signals growth. The PMI has been above 50 since August 2012, but had declined in the previous four months.
