Last month it emerged that Cristiano Ronaldo was the subject of an allegation of rape being investigated by police in Los Angeles. He has denied any wrongdoing, but the questions continue to circle around the Portuguese player

Cristiano Ronaldo knows he’s not particularly well liked. As far back as 2012, he was lamenting this fact in a variety of interviews with journalists. On US news channel CNN, for example, he was asked whether his bad image had been a factor in his failure to win the Ballon d’Or – the award for the best footballer in a given year, voted on by a panel of his peers, coaches and football experts.
