Nearly half a million cans and bottles recycled in Aldi since deposit returns scheme launch

Retailer says it has handed out €37,500 in refunds since the scheme began at the start of last month

The DRS aims to increase Ireland’s plastic and aluminium recycling rates to 90 per cent by 2030

Aldi customers have recycled almost half a million drinks containers since the launch of the Irish deposit returns scheme (DRS), adding up to €37,500 worth of refunds, the discount retailer has said.

The German supermarket installed reverse vending machines (RVM) at every one of its 161 Irish stores in preparation for the launch of the scheme on February 1 - including 71 external RVMs, more than any other retailer in the country, according to ALDI.
