European data regulators opted against giving new powers to a new taskforce set up to examine ChatGPT, with disagreement emerging between watchdogs during a vote on the issue, records show.

A slim majority of members of the European Data Protection Board (EDPB) – the EU’s overarching privacy body – voted not to extend the mandate of its year-old ChatGPT taskforce to other generative AI tools, according to minutes of its most recent meeting.
