The scourge of false patriotism must not be allowed to undermine democracy
The increasing intimidation and harassment of politicians must be addressed
The real face of far-right politics in Ireland was on full display last week in all its menacing ugliness. A group of about 200 people from a variety of extremist right-wing parties gathered in Kildare Street and laid siege to the Dáil as politicians returned to work after the summer recess. Gardaí made several arrests, some TDs were physically intimidated, and staff were forced to remain inside Leinster House for several hours.
