The acquisition of TV3 is part of a wider play by Liberty Global across Europe, according to UPC Ireland chief executive Magnus Ternsjo.

With shareholdings in ITV in Britain and some stations in Belgium, Ternsjo said the communications giant would spread the cost of TV3 with its international strategy.
