71 per cent increase in identity-based cyberattacks

There was a 71 per cent increase in cyberattacks targeting identities in 2023, according to a report by IBM.

The 2024 X-Force Threat Intelligence Index noted that a “pronounced surge” in cyberthreats involving logging rather than hacking into existing accounts highlighted the ease of acquiring users’ credentials without the use of phishing.

The report is based on insights and observations from monitoring over 150 billion security events per day in more than 130 countries.
