As the country prepares for the next phases of gradually re-opening the economy, Mark Scott-Lennon is hoping for a summer of ‘staycations’ at the Fitzpatrick Castle Hotel.

Lockdown restrictions have seen the hospitality and tourism sectors grind to a halt. Pre-pandemic the Killiney hotel employed 155 people. It has retained 30 staff with aid from the wage subsidy scheme while the remainder are receiving the pandemic unemployment payment.

The hotel aims to reopen on July 20 at limited capacity, catering for domestic guests as the overseas traveller market will be effectively nought, Scott-Lennon, who is director and general manager, said.
