From masters to monarchs, the real deal and replicas

Christie’s New York and Bonhams London offer a treasure trove of old masters, including one ‘after’ da Vinci, and replica props from the set of Netflix’s series

A life-size replica of the Gold State Coach, which made appearances in seasons three and six of The Crown television series. The original carriage featured at Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee pageant and at the Coronation of King Charles III. The replica is guiding €35,000-€58,000

It was Oscar Wilde who said that “imitation is the sincerest form of flattery”, apt in relation to four lots of significant interest, which were inspired by the greatest and best and are included in forthcoming New York and London sales.

We begin with Christie’s New York, which is holding a two-part sale of old master painting and sculpture on January 31. Lot 111 in part 2 is most noteworthy, catalogued as After Leonardo da Vinci of what can only be considered one of the most famous pictures in the world: Salvator Mundi ($40,000-$60,000).
