In Celtic mythology, the name Inis Fail is the the seventh of 14 names given to Ireland by the Tuatha-Dé-Dananns, perhaps representing Irish pagan deities. The legend goes that the island was named after an enchanted stone, called Lia Fail, or Stone of Destiny, was brought here by the Tuatha-Dé-Dananns and was used to elect the next king among men assembled at the council of Tara.
