Water upgrades less likely as 500,000 people refuse to pay

Irish Water has been warned that the failure of 500,000 customers to register for water charges will affect its ability to upgrade the water infrastructure.

The latest figures from the company show that 837,000 out of an estimated 1.35 million customers have registered for billing ahead of tomorrow’s (Monday) provisional closing date This means that 513,000 customers have failed to register, which is a non-compliance rate of 38 per cent.
