Planning for apartments outstrips houses nationwide

CSO figures show 4,000 more apartments have received permission than houses across the country in the past five years

The CSO figures show that just 136 homes got planning permission in Dublin city last year, compared to 6,290 apartments

The number of planning permissions being granted for apartments is outstripping those for houses, new official figures show.

Around 95,530 apartments have received planning permission nationwide over the past five years, compared to 91,409 houses, according to the Central Statistics Office (CSO).

In Dublin city 96 per cent of planning permissions in the last five years have been for apartments rather than houses.
