Upgrade of Ringsend waste water treatment plant launched.

Minister for Housing Eoghan Murphy has said that there will be “significant investment" in upgrading the water infrastructure in the forthcoming ten-year capital plan.

Irish Water is seeking a guaranteed allocation of €700 million per year to ensure that it can continue with its programme of replacing leaky pipes and building new waste water treatment plants to stop the discharge of raw sewage.

ButIrish Water has said it would also need a once-off investment of €1.5 to €2 billion to bring water from the River Shannon to Dublin, and to build a giant new wastewater treatment plant for the capital.
