Munster mayorals: Weak campaign fails to convince Munster cities on elected mayors

The government’s plans for directly-elected mayors in three Munster cities were in trouble yesterday with partial tallies indicating they would not pass in Cork and Waterford, while the outcome was on a knife-edge in Limerick.

Voters in the cities of Cork, Limerick and Waterford will have to wait until Monday for the results of three plebiscites on whether to have directly-elected mayors with powers similar to a council chief executive.
