A Fine Gael TD lost out on becoming the vice chairman of the Dáil by a single vote after one of his party colleagues missed his train.
Veteran TD Bernard Durkan had been competing against Fianna Fáil’s Pat ‘The Cope’ Gallagher for the role of Leas-Cheann Comhairle in a secret ballot of TDs last week.
