Ignoring ‘unemployables’ is a big mistake

Providing proper assistance for the long-term unemployed should be a Budget priority.

A group of unemployed people were recently told to turn up at their local social welfare office for a short training course. It was due to begin at 10am and end at 11am.

But many of them turned up between 10am and 11am – because this was the type of open-ended appointment they were used to getting from their social welfare office.
