The Green Party’s European election candidate Saoirse McHugh could be set to run for a Dáil seat in her native Mayo – if the party’s existing candidate agrees to step aside.

The Achill Islander was one of the surprise stories of the European Parliament elections – pulling in 51,019 votes in the Midlands-North-West constituency despite starting the campaign with a very low profile.
