Government to increase sectoral emissions targets just months after agreement
The setting of sectoral emissions ceilings divided government last year, especially in relation to agriculture’s emissions
Sectoral emissions ceilings which caused division in the coalition when they were decided last year will need to be ratcheted up again by the end of the year.
The government will now have to decide which sectors will bear the additional load.
The ceilings are an attempt to divide Ireland’s carbon budgets across different sectors to meet targets for reducing overall emissions.
