The three coalition parties have welcomed moves by the European Commission to find additional funding to pay farmers for nature restoration and “ecosystem services”, the Business Post can reveal.

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar, Eamon Ryan, the Minister for Environment, and Charlie McConalogue, the Minister for Agriculture, have all told the Business Post that they will support the establishment of schemes to pay farmers and landowners to return land to nature, but only on a voluntary basis.
