Cabinet briefed on DNA database to find relatives of Tuam babies
Excavation works are not due to start until next year
Roderic O’Gorman, the Minister for Children, is briefing cabinet today about the foundation of a new DNA database for relatives of children who were buried in the former Mother and Baby home in Tuam.
Daniel McSweeney has been appointed by the government as director of the excavation on the site in Tuam in Galway, where the remains of up to 796 babies are thought to be buried.
