Construction industry says a third of overheads go to exchequer

The selling price of a three-bed semi is now lower than the cost to build and bring it to market, the Construction Industry Federation (CIF) has claimed.

More than a third of the total cost of building the average house is accounted for by taxes and other charges that go into the exchequer, claimed the builders’ lobby group.
