The relationship has been soured by a series of scuffles, all fought in public. Both would benefit from a change of approach
Down through the years, Ireland has been fortunate to have been served by a succession of competent, conscientious and fair-minded judges, particularly in the Superior Courts. Judges play a key role in our democracy. Their independence under the Constitution is central to this. It is in all our interests that the relationship between the judiciary and the executive (the government) remains a healthy one.
