An Post needs courageous changes to keep delivering

The universal postal service obligation is an outdated relic from the pre-smartphone era. An Post should consider ditching it in order to survive

In the wake of the announcement of the closure of 159 rural post offices, Minister for Communications Denis Naughten did something remarkably brave and honourable for any politician to do. He told voters - including those in his own constituency – the unvarnished truth about the sustainability of Ireland’s post office network. Naturally, they did not much like what he had to say. But he was right.
