The 'Everest-style' challenge of implementing the policing report

Now that new Garda Commissioner Drew Harris has seen the detail of the Commission’s effort, he will know that the magic centenary date of 2022 – the suggested date for implementation - is way too close for comfort

Apparently we needed an entire Commission – that’sthe Commission on the Future of Policing in Ireland- sitting for months on end to tell us that policing in Ireland should be rooted in the protection of human rights. The Commission also thought it was worth emphasising that policing, in the future, needs to accept that the protection of vulnerable people has equal ranking with the prevention of crime.
