Rugby’s international governing body is lobbying the Irish government to create new data protection laws, to prevent major headaches over anti-doping investigations.

World Rugby has written to the government that “the Irish Data Protection Bill 2018 [gives] rise to certain potential implications for sporting organisations with respect to anti-doping and other sporting integrity activities”, particularly when it comes to transferring athletes’ personal data between jurisdictions.
