UK budget: Opportunity for Ireland as Jeremy Hunt mulls non-dom shake-up
Jeremy Hunt is looking to raise revenue in Wednesday’s budget but one mooted move could make Ireland an attractive destination for investors
Jeremy Hunt may try to steal a march on Labour's flagship policy and scrap or scale back tax breaks for non-domiciled individuals, as he faces a fiscal forecast that leaves little room for pre-election tax cuts.
While such a move would be a major reversal for the Tories, it would also cause a headache for Labour and shadow chancellor Rachel Reeves ahead of the next general election.
The measure has been a key revenue-raiser for Sir Keir Starmer's party, as well as a not-so-subtle dig at Rishi Sunak whose wife has in the past benefited from the tax status.
