TD wants to name and shame ‘deadbeat’ parents

Less than half of OFP recipients get child maintenance payments. Ireland lacks legislation to force deduction of social welfare from non-paying parents.

A TD has called for a public register to “name and shame” parents who are refusing to pay maintenance to support their children.

New figures show that just 41 per cent of the 10,000 single parents who received the one-parent family payment (OFP) last year were getting child maintenance payments.
