Sunak’s HS2 mega-scheme debacle holds lessons for Ireland

No piece of infrastructure is more ostentatiously modern in the 21st century than a high-speed train network.

A few thoroughly modern countries have one. France and Japan pioneered high-speed rail and have superb networks, as does Spain. China has a reported 40,000 kilometres of high-speed lines linking its largest cities.
