Stronger than expected corporation tax receipts in 2023 drove a surplus of €1.2 billion in the country’s finances last year, according to the latest exchequer returns.

A total of €1.8 billion in corporation tax was collected in December, €0.3bn more than the same month in 2022. This brought the total corporation tax collection for 2023 to €23.8 billion - an increase of €1.2 billion on the year prior.
