Sky, ITV buy into video gaming channel

Media groups ITV and Sky have each paid £1.55m for a 16.5 per cent stake in Ginx TV, the owner of the 24-hour video gaming channel GINX eSports TV. Both companies have options to increase their stakes.

The investment follows the launch of the channel on the Sky platform in Britain and Ireland June and the rapid growth ofcompetitive gaming as a spectator event.

Outside Britain and Ireland, GINX eSports TV is distributed to another 23 million households, making it the largest such channel in the world, reaching 37 million homes.

The schedule includes coverage of Turner's ELEAGUE tournament, FACEIT's eSports Championship Series, and Valve's The International Dota 2.
