Sitting tenants to be offered first right of refusal to buy rental properties under new laws

Proposed measures will significantly boost sitting tenants’ rights

The new rules would mean that when a notice of termination has been served to a tenant and the landlord has an intention to sell, the latter party must allow the tenant a chance to bid on the property. Picture: Sasko Lazarov/Photocall Ireland.

New legislation will require landlords selling a property to give their tenant a 90-day window to bid on the home as a first right of refusal.

The new measures proposed will also significantly boost sitting tenants’ rights, with landlords also required to offer them a chance to match the final private market price agreed for a home if their bids in the first 90 days are unsuccessful.
