The Road Safety Authority (RSA) has hit back at Fine Gael’s Wexford by-election candidate Verona Murphy after she called for the agency to be abolished.

Since it was set up in 2006, the number of people killed on the roads has dropped from 365 that year to 142 last year. And there were tributes paid last week to the road safety role played by its first chairman, the late Gay Byrne.
