Asylum seekers who arrive into Ireland without personal identification will be put into a fast-tracked process that could see them returned home in just months, under new proposals being considered by government.

The proposals are part of the new European Asylum and Migration Pact, which is an agreed series of legislative reforms to the European Union’s migration policy, which are widely seen as a hardening of the EU’s position.
