Plans to phase out fossil fuel home heating make progress

More than 95 per cent of new homes have alternative heating systems after policy push

Less than 4 per cent of new homes had fossil fuel heating systems installed in the first three quarters of 2023, as the government is preparing a plan to phase them out completely.

The new figures show how fossil fuel boilers have been almost completely phased out from new builds because of Net Zero Energy Building Regulations first introduced in 2019.
