Nearly 1 billion litres of diesel have been counted towards Ireland’s transport renewable energy targets since 2011, despite not being a renewable, The Sunday Business Post can reveal.
This is as a result of biodiesel – a renewable biofuel mixed in with diesel – being counted twice on paper towards our transport renewable targets. The real world effect of this double counting of biodiesel is that half the recorded volume is actually made up of diesel.
