Not fair to make industry fund deposit returns scheme and pay for litter clean up, says Coca-Cola

Under the new plastic recycling laws, producers will be required to fund the collection of litter as well as the new recycling scheme

The ESG head of Coca-Cola’s bottling operation has said it is not fair that companies are expected to fund the new deposit returns scheme and pay for litter clean-up costs.

Louise Sullivan, Coca-Cola HBC’s head of packaging circularity, said that such schemes were effective in removing packaging from the environment and encouraging a circular economy, but that there needed to be “recognition” of that in the clean-up fees charged to producers.
