No room at the inn: More than 900 permitted hotel beds in Dublin not being built

A new Savills analysis has found ten projects with full planning permission, are ‘on hold’ or ‘not proceeding’

Dublin City Council said there is an ‘overconcentration’ of hotels in certain parts of central Dublin

Hotel development projects that would deliver more than 900 new hotel beds to Dublin city centre are currently on hold or not progressing, new research by Savills has shown.

Last year, Dublin City Council said there is an “overconcentration” of hotels in certain parts of central Dublin that is damaging the “vitality of the inner city”.

In assessments of several planning applications to build new hotels in the city centre, the local authority said it has already granted permission for a large number of hotel beds and could not justify any further approvals.
