New homes must have meter box to get water connection

Irish Water quietly introduced the new policy in August last year so that the same boundary boxes would be installed in every new house built in the country

Irish Water has introduced new rules requiring all new homes to be meter-ready in order to get a water connection.

Although the installation of water meters has been suspended, contractors are required to put in boundary boxes outside all new houses and substantially refurbished houses, as well as bulk meters in new apartment complexes.
