Neale Richmond: Government wants Ireland to be a ‘key player’ in the space sector

Richmond made the remarks at the IIEA after the government allocated an addition €3.3 million to the European Space Agency (ESA) in the budget

Ireland can be a “key player” in the space sector, according to Neale Richmond, the junior minister for space. Richmond said that space is “increasingly crucial for our economy and society.”

He made the remarks on Friday at an IIEA event called Space: A New Frontier for Ireland.

Next year, Ireland’s first ever satellite will be launched. The Eirsat-1 project was led by researchers at UCD.
