Minister warns developers not to repeat past greed

Minister of state Paudie Coffey has warned property developers not to be greedy when they are setting the prices for new family homes.

Coffey, who is known unofficially as the minister for construction, said he wanted developers and other professionals in the construction sector to ensure that new homes are affordable for families.

“I would be asking all sectors to reflect on [the Celtic Tiger] and look at their margins. Let’s not be as greedy as we were in the past. Let’s bring it back to basic affordability and sustainability,” he said.
