Meta considering monthly fees for Facebook and Instagram to get around EU data laws

Meta plans to charge European users for ad-free versions of Facebook and Instagram, according to reports.

The move comes as Mark Zuckerberg’s company faces growing scrutiny about its compliance with the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) which are enforced by the Irish Data Protection Commissioner (DPC).

The Wall Street Journal and Reuters have reported Meta’s plans and that contact has been made with the DPC.
