Less consumers behind on electricity bills but volume in gas arrears remains high

Energy credits and supplier price cuts have likely helped a number of electricity consumers out of arrears

The number of electricity customers behind on their bills fell in January.

The Commission for Regulation of Utilities (CRU) reported that 208,899 domestic electricity accounts were in arrears in January – 9 per cent of all customers. This is down from 11 per cent in December – representing a drop of 35,000 customers.

Just over one in five customers, however, were behind on their gas bills in the same month.
