Labour leader Ivana Bacik has called out the government following the release of the its housing plan update, saying she is shocked that the housing minister has no plans to reinstate winter eviction ban on an annual basis.

On Tuesday, the coalition published its Q2 Housing for All report and announced details of a €150 million fund to end long-term dereliction in towns and cities.

The content and timing of the update, which Bacik referred to as a “great deal of spin”, has drawn criticism from opposition. Sinn Féin’s Eoin Ó Broin has suggested the Department of Housing chose to issue the report during Tuesday’s Oireachtas hearings featuring RTÉ star Ryan Tubridy to distract from a “lack of actual progress”.
