Belgian banking group KBC has announced that it is remaining in Ireland, adding that the country will become one of its core markets.

More than 1,000 staff at KBC Bank Ireland had been awaiting the outcome of a strategic review of the business. The news came as the Irish arm reported net profits of €227m for last year, up from €75m in 2015.
