Irish emissions fall to 30-year low

Early estimates indicate a significant drop in emissions last year but the country is still falling short of its targets

It is expected that agricultural emissions will have fallen slightly by about 1 per cent to 2 per cent, as cattle herd numbers fell and fertiliser use was down

Expectations are growing that Ireland’s emissions last year hit a 30 year low, but the country is still off track to stay within its first carbon budget.

Several experts told the Business Post that early estimates indicate a 4 per cent to 5 per cent drop in emissions for 2023, to 57 or 58 million tonnes of carbon.
