Ireland faces ‘uphill task’ of meeting EV targets in 2030 as sales fall

Prices and charging infrastructure need to be addressed to kickstart the EV market, according to a new study

Ireland faces an “uphill task” to meet its EV targets for 2030, having recorded the largest annual decline in EV sales across the EU in March, according to a new report.

Data from the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA), published by Geotab, the connected transportation solutions company, indicated that while Ireland ranked tenth for European EV sales in 2023, purchases dropped 41.4 per cent in the year to March 2024.
