The Iranian ambassador to Ireland has flagged up the opportunity for Irish farmers to export beef to his country if the government can face down what he called US “pressure”.

Dr Masoud Eslami said he believed the Irish government was holding back from developing closer relations with Iran due to US hostility to the country.
