The state’s higher education regulator has raised major concern over the “governance and culture” at the University of Limerick after it admitted paying €5.2 million over the odds for student housing.
Brigid Laffan told a university-wide meeting that “there must be accountability” amid the furore over UL’s decision to spend more than €12 million on 20 houses in Rhebogue near its campus.
The college’s chancellor called the situation “shocking and alarming”.
