Green shoots but grassroots football needs serious input to deliver on promise

Last weekend, one Irish team’s match against European opposition prompted a hysterical reaction about football in Ireland; another went unnoticed but will be more significant in time.

There was nothing positive about Ireland’s capitulation in Athens and it prompted Liam Brady’s appraisal that “this is the worst group of players that any manager has had in my lifetime”.
