Google’s chief executive has warned staff that the search giant will be implementing more layoffs during 2024, having already imposed well over 1,000 job cuts globally since the start of the year.

Sundar Pichai told Google workers that the scale of the redundancies will not be at the same level as in 2023, when the company shed 12,000 jobs – but has said various teams will be laying off employees in the coming months.

In an internal memo on Wednesday seen by the Business Post, Pichai said the company had to make “tough choices” as part of its investment strategy, which he said would involve “eliminating roles” throughout 2024.
